Fun, sun and braaivleis were the order of the day on March 30 when Rand Aid’s Wedge Gardens treatment centre held its annual aftercare function. Therapist Rhulani Khosa (pictured), who is in charge of the rehabilitation centre’s sports programme, not only organised a range of different sport events on the day, but ensures that daily opportunities exist for the residents to spend their leisure time productively.
One of the aims is to encourage residents to continue with a sport when they leave Wedge Gardens, as being active and involved in healthy activities can help prevent a relapse.
“Balance in life and especially during early recovery is extremely important, which is why we have this holistic approach in order to address residents’ needs on all levels,” says the head of Wedge Gardens, Adèl Grobbelaar.
